Mixed Media Shrine Quilt - 2 day class
Terrie Hancock Mangat is an internationally known textile artist currently living and working in Taos, New Mexico. Since the 1970s, she has been noted for pioneering and popularizing quilts incorporating mixed media embellishments. She makes contemporary quilts and paint fabric designs. She loves color, texture and the scale of imagery in quilt making. Terrie's work is exhibited in fine art museums across the county.
Terrie will be teaching a Mixed Media Shrine class at STITCH, October 20th and 21st. In this two day class you'll work on commemorating or honoring the subject of your choice, using Terrie's techniques. You'll use an eclectic mix of fabrics found in traditional scrap bag quilts to be set off by the paint, embroidery and embellishments – the trademarks of Victorian crazy quilt makers. Students can choose to express an idea or abstract image,or put their favorite image into the framework of a Shrine.
Demonstrations will include hand reverse applique, strip piecing, hand embroidery, painting directly on the quilt, beading, quilting with embroidery thread in larger stitches. A student can work in a simple or
complicated manner here, but this class will present a new level of freedom in self-expression.
