Artful Applique
Our dear friend and quilt artist, Amanda Preston, has agreed to teach a two-day applique workshop at Stitch. Many of you know Amanda and know that she's absolutely fearless when it comes to cutting up fabrics and laying down stitches to create her works of art.
Art Quilt Appliqué Class: Create Your Own Photo to fabric design
In this engaging two-day class, you’ll transform a photograph of your choice into a stunning appliqué quilt. We’ll start with a photo that ideally has strong value contrasts to ensure the best artistic outcome. Ahead of the class, I’ll digitally enhance your image and print it, so you can dive right into your project as soon as class begins.
Animal portraits and floral images are perfect subjects for this technique, making them a great starting point. The skills you acquire will be versatile, allowing you to apply them to various appliqué art quilts in the future.
When selecting your fabrics, aim for a wide range of values that mirror the contrasts in your photo. As you work, you’ll find that fabric pieces can be easily adjusted, making this a fun and stress-free experience.
The first day will be dedicated to creating your quilt, while the second day will focus on free-motion quilting and finishing touches. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced quilter, this class offers a creative and supportive environment to explore your artistry.
