Using stitch in artwork begins with an expressive line. Learn to focus on the character of line and personal symbols through simple drawing, composition and stitching exercises.
Participants will accumulate a toolbox of techniques for seeing, interpreting and completing concept-driven work.
Build your stitching vocabulary and trust the thread to tell your story.
• First we make a mess. Begin to see that line is active and reactive.
• Embrace the wonky. Learn to make the most of whatever occurs by joining ideas to line motifs.
• Think in thread. Translate visual stimuli into pathways by stitching in continuous line. Open to all skill levels

| Requirements: | Sewing machine with the ability to do free-motion quilting (double check that you have a free motion foot that works. Please know how to operate your machine. Fabric and batting 14"x14" squares - Four squares of black cotton fabric, four squares of white cotton fabric, four squares of solid colored fabric. Your color choice. 12 squares of colorful backing fabric - your choice, solid or print. 14"x14" squares of batting for each pair of fabric squares (any kind is fine, but you may want to experiment with several kinds.) Your favorite brand of quilting thread - one spool in black, one spool in white or natural and any other color you prefer. Two bobbins pre-wound with black and white threads. Needles: 90/14 or 100/16 needle with 40wt. threads. Chalk marker Scissors Journal, legal pad or diary to keep notes One fine tip dry erase marker in black A Pilot Precise V5 pen in black A way to capture images: digital camera, tablet or smartphone Your ideas and patience. |
